Jay’s Homemade Ice Cream

As with all newlyweds, there are issues that must be sorted out at the beginning of any new marriage. With Lou and I, homemade ice cream was one of them. I grew up in south Mississippi, and my family made homemade ice cream with raw eggs. Lou grew up in the Mississippi Delta, and they made their homemade ice cream by cooking the eggs and creating a custard. Lou couldn’t stand the thought of eating raw eggs, and I don’t like the custard kind. I happened upon this recipe shortly after we married and made it mine. It’s a perfect compromise for us, and you don’t even miss the eggs. I like to make mine in the afternoon so it has a little time to firm up before the Friday Night Porch Party begins.
