Baked Orzo with Onions


Ingredients:

 

3 sweet onions, sliced thinly

1 stick of butter

2 cups of orzo

2 bouillon cubes, crushed

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon sugar

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1/2 teaspoon thyme

4 cups beef broth

7-ounce package of gruyere cheese, grated (optional)

 

Directions:

 

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  In a large skillet, cook the onions in the butter until nice and brown, about 15 minutes.  Combine the cooked onions with all the remaining ingredients (except cheese) and transfer to a baking dish.  Cover and bake 30 minutes.  Remove the cover and bake about 10 more minutes.  Remove from oven and stir in a little more beef broth or water if orzo is too thick.  Stir in cheese before serving.
