Anyone that has known me for a while knows my favorite hushpuppy on the planet is from Stogner’s Fish Camp in Tylertown, Mississippi. I dream about these light, fluffy, sweet little golden gems. I seriously do, and honestly, I have searched for anyone that would share the recipe with me. I have attempted to copy them dozens of time with no luck. If you have any connections to this place or if you know the recipe, please share with me! Until the day comes and I somehow obtain the recipe, I will settle for these Not Stogner’s Hushpuppies. Actually, they are a very close second. Someone shared this recipe several years ago when I made a Facebook plea for the Stogner’s recipe. I added a little extra sugar making it extra special. Enjoy.
Almost Stogner's Hush Puppies
Ingredients:
1 cup self-rising flour
2 cups self-rising cornmeal
3 onions, pureed in the food processor
3 eggs, beaten
1 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon salt
Buttermilk, just enough to make a batter
Directions:
Preheat frying oil to 350 degrees. Mix all ingredients together in a mixing bowl. Set aside for about 30 minutes before cooking. Using a teaspoon, drop the batter into the hot oil and fry until golden brown. Remove to a paper lined pan to cool a bit before serving.
A good ole Mississippi Catfish Fry is my very favorite meal for Friday Night Porch Party. Is there anything more southern? Mississippi farm raised catfish fried up using Simmons batter mix, Not Stoger's Hushpuppies, Jay's Cole Slaw, Triple Fried French Fries along with some Fry Sauce and Emeril's Tartar Sauce. There's nothing better.
